UNDP is implementing DRR Projects in the state of Andhra Pradesh since One decade. The main objective of the project is to build capacities of various stakeholders working in Disaster Management and also to build Institutional Capacity of the Government Institutions.

Now, UNDP is implementing “Enhancing Institutional and Community Resilience to Disasters and Climate Change” in the State from 2013.

The Project is implemented in Districts of Visakhapatnam & Krishna and in Cities of Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam.

The Project Components are:

Under this project; City DM Plans of Vizag and Vijayawada are prepared. SMS based EWS system developed. Hazard Risk & Vulnerability Assessment was conducted. Heat Wave Action Plans prepared for both Cities. Training to Officers on IRS taken up. Case Study on HUD HUD done. Web Portals on DM Developed.

Nearly 2000 Urban Volunteers trained. Ward level DM Plans are also under progress.

At State level; TNA in comprehensive mode is done and Training Strategy is prepared. Action Plans for Mainstreaming DRR & CCA in Developmental Plans of key sectors like Urban, Agri, Forest & Education Department prepared. Workshops on Senadai Framework and COP-21 conducted for generating awareness to State level Officials.

Under DSS; UNDP supported in preparation of District DM Plans for 13 Districts; 11 City DM Plans and 15 Departmental DM Plans.

The project is going on with many more activities.
